They that wait upon Yahweh shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
The word wait in the Bible has four definitions: 1. To be silent. 2. To be expectant. 3. To watch. 4. To serve. The word wait in the scripture above means to expect Yahweh to renew their strength, that they may soar into the heavens with wings as eagles! As spiritual Christians mature, they realize more and more their dependency upon God. In order to gain knowledge, understanding and wisdom, we must turn to the Holy Spirit within. I ask questions in English, then in a spiritual language. I then interpret by speaking out and the Spirit gives me the words to utter. Another and maybe a better way is to relax and get quiet before God and allow the Holy Spirit to take you “higher and higher into the heavens” until the things of earth fade from sight and mind and you “pierce the veil”! This is where most Christians fail, for it is too frightening for them to completely let go of everything and go to the other side.
The eagle is a solitary bird. He does not travel in a flock as geese, ducks and chickens. He has no need for farmland nor for the farmer. He has learned how to acquire an abundance of good rich food all by himself! He soars into the heavens by merely setting his wings and letting the upper wind carry him higher and higher until he has at times reached 6000 feet. The earth fades from view and he has an exciting experience in this heavenly realm. The Spirit filled saint can do and should learn to do the same. The word pneuma means wind, but it also means spirit! So let’s set our wings and allow the Spirit to take us higher and higher into God’s realm where we may get a vision, a revelation, a word or a direction. Like the eagle, you can only spend a short time at such a height, but what a time!!
That great teacher, John Follette, put it this way: he called it the rhythm of the spirit. You start on man’s level. Lay down on the couch or your bed, raise your hands to God, do not pray, keep quiet. As you feel the presence of the Spirit, allow the power to intensify, keep quiet! And allow the power to build until you lose all reality with the things around you (a frightening experience to some for the first time). You will ascend to God’s level by penetrating the veil, and there receive direction for your life, ministry or need. You will then descend in the Spirit back to man’s level and carry out that direction given you.
