Webster’s dictionary says dispensation means: “A system of revealed commands and promises regulating human affairs… a providential authorization of the order of things.” When you think of who the Holy Spirit is, and what His ministry entails, this definition fits quite well.
Christ (Messiah) said:
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another advocate (counselor or comforter) to be with you always (or until the end of the age), even the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 14:16-17
The first thing you must understand is that the Holy Spirit is actually seven spirits functioning as a unit. Some call Him a seven-fold Spirit. He is the Spirit of Truth, Counsel, Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Might, and Reverence—seven in all. See Isaiah 11:1-3 and Revelation 4:5.
He (or they) are the seven torches that burn before the throne of God. The second thing to understand is that Christ embodies all seven of these spirits, allegorically portrayed in:
I will bring my servant, the Branch. For behold, upon the stone I have set before Joshua, a single stone with seven eyes. I will engrave its inscription, says Yahweh of hosts, and I will remove the guilt of this land in a single day.
These seven are the eyes of Yahweh which range throughout the whole earth.
Zechariah 3:8-10
And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders, I saw a lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
Revelation 5:6
The Holy Spirit is the servant of both the Father and the Son. He is not a God nor to be worshiped as such. He is allegorically like the servant in the household of Abraham and Isaac. Abraham representing God; Isaac, the Son of God (Christ). The servant was sent into a strange country to retrieve a bride for Isaac, as the Holy Spirit has been sent to earth to retrieve a bride for Christ.
When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will declare it to you; the things that are to come.
John 16:13
When a Christian prays, he prays in or by the Holy Spirit:
But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit.
Jude 1:20
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, praying at all times in the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 6:17-18
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in the Holy Spirit and truth.
John 4:24
The divine directive on prayer is: pray by the Holy Spirit, through Christ (our High Priest, the Intercessor) to God, who is our Heavenly Father; and the answer will come from God through Christ, by the Holy Spirit.
For we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with inexpressible yearnings.
Romans 8:26
Therefore He (Christ) had to be made like His brethren in every respect, so that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people.
Hebrews 2:17-18
John the Baptist declared the Messiah (Christ) had two duties or ministries to perform. One: to be the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. Two:
I baptize you with water, but He who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry, He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 3:11
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not an automatic process that comes along with salvation or even water baptism.
Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Master Yahshua. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:14-18
Some Christians seem to think that spiritual baptism is just a speaking in tongues thing or an overemotional experience. But what it really accounts for is a fulfilling of scripture, a spiritual experience where your body is now the temple of the Holy Spirit. You are empowered from on high; you have a spiritual language for prayer and praise, whereby you may ask the Spirit questions and get answers, through the language He has given you coupled with interpretation of that language. You have a companion that will never leave you nor forsake you. In addition to this, you have access to the nine gifts of the Spirit.
Therefore, he who speaks in a spiritual language should pray for the power to interpret.
For one who speaks in a spiritual language, speaks not to men but to God, no one understands him for he is speaking mysteries in the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:2, 13
These are the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit: languages and interpretation of them, prophecy, utterance of wisdom, utterance of knowledge, various gifts of healing, various powers or miracles, discernment of good and evil spirits, and perfect faith. These are all charismatic gifts and can be yours by merely asking.
We must learn to leave the elementary doctrines of Christ behind, such as salvation, the baptisms, the resurrections, etc., and move on to a more spiritual level; this is called maturity.
Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrines of Christ and go on to maturity.
Hebrews 6:1-2
For I decided to know nothing among you except Yahshua Messiah and Him crucified (salvation). Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom although it is not a wisdom of this age, but we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God which God decreed before the ages for our glory.
1 Corinthians 2:2, 6-7
