And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into new wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine desires new; for he says, the old is better.
Luke 5:37-39
As we try to introduce new spiritual truth to the body of Christ, we find ourselves trying to put new wine into old wineskins most of the time. If we yield to the Holy Spirit's direction we may be led to the right person or persons.
The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them for they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14
The real problem is, of course, there are two kinds of Christians; the spiritual and the nonspiritual. Paul speaks of the nonspiritual as babes in Christ in 1 Corinthians 3:1.
To the church at Corinth, Paul decided that they were so immature and unspiritual he would know nothing among them except the crucifixion of Christ in 1 Corinthians 2:2.
He went on to say:
Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom although it is not a wisdom of this age...But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 2:6-7
Paul even tells us how this great wisdom is acquired!
No one comprehends the wisdom (or mysteries) of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom, but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths from a spiritual language.
1 Corinthians 2:11-13
Now we are getting to it! How is this spiritual language acquired? It is not the gift of speaking in "Tongues"! Which is one of the nine gifts of the Spirit. It is a gift from God (our Heavenly Father) given at the time we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, so that we may speak to Him and receive from Him the edification necessary.
Paul wrote:
For he who speaks in an unknown language speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands him, for he is uttering mysteries in the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:2
He goes on to say:
Therefore, he who speaks in an unknown language should pray for the power to interpret.
1 Corinthians 14:13
